Where To Eat if You Live On A Castlethorn Street - The Gables
Mar 13, 2019
Alive with the hum of afternoon chatter The Gables in Foxrock was buzzing with hungry lunchtime punters just after 1pm yesterday as we waited to be seated for our latest instalment of Where To Eat on a Castlethorn Street. Situated a stone’s throw from our infamous Brighton Wood development stands The Gables restaurant – as it rightly calls itself ‘The Heart of Foxrock’. Renowned for their superb food and outstanding list of wines The Gables is open 7 days a week serving Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. There is also a scrumptious Brunch menu available on the weekends.
After a short wait we took our seats near the back of the restaurant. We were placed at a nice, comfortable round table and handed menus immediately for review. Choices range from smaller, more traditional lunch items such as a ‘Honey Baked Ham Sandwich’, healthy salads or ‘Barbequed Irish Chicken Wings’ to more substantial dishes like ‘The Gables Fish n’ Chips and even ‘Chargrilled Rib-Eye Steak’. With a variety of sides and sharing plates also available there is something for everyone who finds themselves hungry in Foxrock! With so many yummy dishes on offer choosing something to order was no easy task. We finally settled on the ‘BLT Sandwich’ and ‘Irish Smoked Salmon’ on home-made guinness bread with a side of ‘Creamy Broccoli Gratin’.
My sandwich arrived packed with piping hot bacon between two slices of thick toasted batch bread and lashings of delicious mayonnaise. The smoked salmon was piled high on the delectable home-made Guinness bread and served with a side of crème fraiche, salad and a wedge of lemon. We weren’t long before tucking in to the broccoli gratin – a dish I had never tried before. The gratin cheese was wonderfully crisp on top of the perfectly cooked broccoli which sat on a luscious, gooey sauce. After gobbling down our respectable meals we were absolutely stuffed! Both dishes were delicious – we certainly made excellent choices.
From the warm welcome we received when we came in through to paying the bill our host was always enthusiastic and attentive. There was a lovely sense of community in the restaurant and fantastic food coupled with great atmosphere is always a winning combination for me. Altogether we had a superb lunch experience and there would be no hesitation to take a trip to The Gables again.
