Where To Eat if You Live On A Castlethorn Street - The Rendezvous Coffee House
Aug 23, 2019
A new site means new places to eat and what’s a more appropriate place for a get-together than ‘The Rendezvous Coffee House’. This bustling café and eatery stands proud at the top of the main street in Ongar village just over a ten-minute walk from our development at St. Joseph’s, Clonsilla.
There was barely an empty chair inside but luckily, we nabbed a high table in an area at the back just as someone was leaving. A friendly and welcoming waiter gave us some menus and I ordered a cappuccino to drink while we made our meal choices - and choices there was plenty! The café has a vast menu ranging from breakfasts to burgers and they even have healthy options on the back. Not quite what I was expecting when I saw enormous portions of lasagne and chips being served! We decided we would try both types of dishes. I ordered the Rendezvous’ version of a ‘Buddha Bowl’ while my colleague went for a classic ‘Steak Sandwich’ served with chips.
My coffee arrived first topped with an impressive amount of foam and sprinkled with chocolate. It was the perfect temperature and it went down a treat on an unusually cold day in August while we waited for our food. We didn’t have to wait long when our plates arrived full to the brim with our delicious looking food. My buddha bowl was packed with quinoa and roast vegetables and topped with grilled chicken and seeds. I added some of the balsamic on the side and tucked into what was a healthy but hearty lunch.
My colleague scoffed his steak sandwich so quickly I very nearly didn’t get a bite! The steak was tender and flavourful inside as was the pepper sauce that accompanied it. The chips were big and fluffy with no fancy garnishes on them like most fries have nowadays, which is just the way I like them.
At Castlethorn we always have room for dessert and today was no exception. Our helpful waiter returned and suggested the ‘Death by Chocolate’ with two spoons. The rich and decadent chocolate cake arrived warm and gooey with a generous helping of ice-cream drizzled with chocolate sauce. Well, I died and went to heaven!
It’s back to basics at The Rendezvous Coffee House and they do it best. Friendly staff and even friendlier on the wallet (€35 for our two lunches, a diet coke, coffee and dessert) this is a restaurant not to be missed if you are in the Dublin 15 area. We are already planning our next trip!
